Gases

Oxygen
Industrially, oxygen is used with fuel gases in gas welding, gas cutting, oxygen scarfing,
flame cleaning, flame hardening, and flame straightening. In gas cutting specifically, the oxygen must be of high quality to ensure a high cutting speed and a clean cut.

Nitrogen
Nitrogen is significantly important to the chemical industry where it is used to make
fertilisers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives. In order to make these products, nitrogen must first be reacted with hydrogen to produce ammonia which is done by the Haber process.

Argon
Argon is of most use to the metal industry, being used as an inert gas shield in arc welding and cutting. It is also used as a non-reactive blanket in the manufacture of titanium and other reactive elements and as a protective atmosphere for growing silicon and germanium crystals.

Carbon Dioxide
Carbon dioxide has industrial uses as well; it is used as an inert gas in chemical processes, in the storage of carbon powder and in fire extinguishers. Carbon dioxide is also used to produce carbonated soft drinks and soda water.

Mixtures
Gas Mixtures are the combination of two or more gases. Most Gas Mixtures have been
developed for specific applications.

High Purity Argon
This is most commonly used as a carrier gas, purge gas or detector gas for a range of
analytical equipment.
